Garcia right to pay contractors’ debts
I was not aware that Minister Anthony Garcia was referred to the Integrity Commission by former minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh. However, I was happy to read the case was dismissed and Mr Garcia was cleared of any wrongdoing.
I find it very baffling that Dr Gopeesingh would object to efforts by the Ministry of Education to pay these contractors who are owed millions of dollars for jobs done for the ministry when Dr Gopeesingh was the minister.
I have heard Dr Gopeesingh talking on many occasions about constructing over 100 schools during his time. He should tell the country why these contractors were not paid.
I have also seen many reports in the newspapers and television in recent times where the court ruled in favour of contractors who took the Education Facilities Company to court for outstanding payments.
These contractors are owed by the state and they must be paid all outstanding monies.
Dr Gopeesingh is aspiring to return to political office. He should be glad Mr Anthony Garcia is making efforts to clear the debts created by the ministry during the period when he was the Minister of Education.
