Too many bitter politicians
It is often said that a soft word turns away wrath; but it seems to me that this advice is not really taken into consideration by many, including our politicians. I believe, looking at the conduct of some of our politicians both inside and outside Parliament, that pretty soon we may see, caught on video, a “fist encounter.” I do hope that this will never take place.
And we are wondering why so much anger is seen all around Trinidad and Tobago. Well, the leaders are propagating it. It is simple as that. If those who are supposed to be leading the way are setting such poor example, what can we expect? Can we not expect some to do likewise? How can you tell your child not to cuss and you are doing it right before them.
I have been around a long time and have had sufficient opportunity to observe leadership when it comes to our politicians and I say without blushing, our present crop has left a lot to be desired. The evidence is there right before your eyes.
As a citizen, I am calling upon our parliamentarians to lead the way, beginning with the way they conduct themselves both in and outside Parliament. The nation is watching and the world also, for news travel fast.
Set a standard that others can follow; treat each other right and with respect. Forget the bitterness and personal vendetta when it comes to dealing with the people’s business. After all, that is the reason you were elected to office.
I conclude with this quote by Stephen Hawking, “People won’t have time for you if you are always angry and complaining.”
