Panyard judging gets going tomorrow
The 15 large conventional steelbands registered for Panorama 2015 will be visited by the judges and Pan Trinbago officials from tomorrow evening. Two judges will visit each of the zones to listen to the bands and give their comments while Pan Trinbago officials will conduct the head count. This will take place at the band’s respective panyards and/or theatres.
The competitors comprising three from the east, seven from the north, four from the south central and one in Tobago will perform over a three-day period. In a unique twist and unlike previous years, no two large conventional bands are playing the same selection. Reigning champion Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove will perform Happiness, composed by Len “Boogsie” Sharpe and performed by Olatunji.
Previous winner Massy Trinidad All Stars’s tune of choice is Clive Telemaque’s Unquestionable, performed by Sheldon Reid and arranged by Leon “Smooth” Edwards, while bpTT Renegades, also a previous multiple champion, has selected Johan Chuckaree’s Jam Dem Hard, performed by Denise Belfon and arranged by Duvone Stewart.
Interestingly, Chuckaree is one of the stalwart tenor players in Phase II Pan Groove. All bands in this category will move to the semifinal round, popularly known as Savannah Party, at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, on Sunday. On the same day, 14 medium bands in order of merit will also be judged. Show time is 12 noon. Admission is Grand Stand $250, North Stand $350, and Greens $350.
